Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Material Handling Group Leader plays a critical role in executing and optimizing the end-to-end movement of materials within the production facility. They are responsible for leading and directing a team of material handlers to ensure the efficient and safe handling of materials, parts, and components within the manufacturing facility. They communicate their findings, recommendations, and progress to management and stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination regarding material flow.

  • Leads, mentors, and supervises a team of material handlers.
  • Assigns tasks, schedule shifts, and monitors performance to ensure team members are trained and adhere to safety and quality standards.
  • Oversees the movement, storage, and distribution of materials to support production schedules.
  • Implements material handling strategies to minimize and/or eliminate production disruptions and downtime.
  • Monitors and controls inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
  • Enforces safety protocols and guidelines by conducting regular safety training and audits to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Continuously improves material handling processes to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Investigates and addresses quality related issues related to material handling.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance and utilization of material handling equipment and resources by coordinating equipment repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Monitors material handling costs, identifies cost-saving opportunities, and implements cost-effective solutions while maintaining high production standards.
  • Maintains effective communication with production and cross-functional departments to facilitate smooth material flow.
  • Ensuring that material flow processes align with sustainability goals and reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing operations.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to material handling processes and improvements.

 

Qualifications & Preferences

Required:

  • Associate degree or 5+ years of supervision experience.
  • Proven experience in material handling or warehouse management within an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Outstanding communication skills and collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in material flow, inventory management, procurement, or logistics.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations related to the handling and movement of materials to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Preferred:
  • Advanced degree or certifications in a related field preferred.
  • Years of experience in fast paced, high volume automotive industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.

 

Working Hours (Shift) Requirement

  • Employment opportunities at HMGMA will be completed on multiple phases.

  • Domestic / International travel required.
