Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Material Handling Associate plays a critical role on managing the execution of material flow within the production facility. They are responsible for ensuring the compliance of material flow processes, gauging material handling equipment, evaluating value stream mapping, optimizing internal logistics routing, and proper allocation of headcount planning for the Material Handling team. They communicate their findings, recommendation, and progress to management and stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination regarding material flow.

  • Improves the material flow within the automotive production lines to minimize downtime, reduce waste, identify bottlenecks, and increase production efficiency.
  • Monitors Kanban systems to ensure the controlled flow and reorder of materials to proper lineside and storage delivery locations.
  • Assists with Engineering Order changes implementation.
  • Investigates to root cause material shortages and overages issues.
  • Maintains the visual management on internal sequencing racks, dollies, flow racks, mobile powered equipment.
  • Supports the Material Handling Group Leaders, Assistant Managers, and Manager with process improvements.
  • Collects and analyzes data on material flow metrics, such as lead times, cycle times, and throughput, to identify areas for improvement and make informed decisions.
  • Applies lean principles, such as Just-In-Time (JIT) production, to eliminate waste, reduce lead times, and streamline processes.
  • Maintains accountability of material handling mobile powered equipment, such as forklifts and tuggers, while ensuring proper allocation of equipment.
  • Supports the flow of production material requiring quality inspection and/or rework.
  • Supports Logistics Control with new product introduction.
  • Uses continuous improvement methodologies like Six Sigma, Lean, or Kaizen to drive ongoing enhancements in material flow processes and efficiency.
  • Identifies cost-saving opportunities in material handling, storage, and transportation while maintaining high production standards.
  • Responds and resolves shop floor problems related to Production Control areas.
  • Works cross functionally with Production, Quality, Engineering, etc. to resolve production topics.

 

Qualifications & Preferences

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, business administration, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in material flow, inventory management, or internal logistics.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations related to the handling and movement of materials to maintain a safe work environment.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in a related field preferred
  • Years of experience in fast paced, high volume automotive industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience in layout planning using 2D and/or 3D.

 

Working Hours (Shift) Requirement

  • Employment opportunities at HMGMA will be completed on multiple phases.

  • Domestic / International travel required.
