Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Material Handling Assistant Manager plays a critical role on ensuring the efficient movement of materials within the production facility. They are responsible for verifying the Material Handling team adheres to the material flow processes, correct deployment of material handling equipment, continuously improve material handling procedures, monitor manpower assignments, and providing feedback on packaging solutions of production parts.

  • Supports the execution of material flow within the automotive production lines to minimize downtime, reduce waste, identify bottlenecks, and increase production efficiency.
  • Monitors manpower assignments are correctly allocated to the Material Handling team.
  • Serves as an advisor to both Logistics Control and Material Handling within Production Control.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and development of team.
  • Maintains the correct usage of Kanban systems to control the flow of materials and trigger reordering when inventory levels reach replenishment thresholds.
  • Removes roadblocks and resolves problems delaying the progress of projects and department milestones.
  • Ensures the appropriate material handling equipment (forklifts, tuggers, PDAs, etc.) is efficient and available to Material Handling.
  • Supports Material Handling by conducting root cause analysis to eliminate and mitigate issues on manpower, materials, methods, and machine.
  • Identify inventory discrepancies due to improper material management.
  • Responsible for all visual management relayed to Material Handling equipment and furniture.
  • Develops Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure efficiency, monitor progress, assess performance, and make informed decisions.
  • Continuously evaluates cost reduction improvements in material flow and container packaging.
  • Meet all other requirements as assigned.

 

Qualifications & Preferences

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, business administration, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in material flow, inventory management, internal logistics, and/or supply chain management. (minimum 3 years of managing experience)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Advanced Microsoft Office suite expertise.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations related to the handling and movement of materials to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to articulate, write, and present clearly to upper management.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in a related field preferred
  • Years of experience in fast paced, high volume automotive industry strongly preferred.
  • Certifications and experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience in layout planning using 2D and/or 3D.
  • Diverse knowledge of various packing materials, applications, and design.

 

Working Hours (Shift) Requirement
